Isondo Precious Metals (IPM) a black owned Platinum Group Metal (PGM) technology company established in 2013, has developed a state-of-the-art facility at the OR Tambo Special Economic Zone alongside the country's main airport designed to produce industrial scale quantities of Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) and PGM catalysts for fuel cell and electrolysers. IPM also has plans to produce catalyst precursors, recycle spent MEAs and catalysts as well as providing specialist MEA testing and PGM analytical services. The planned launch is 2024. Additionally, IPM has developed a project to deploy hydrogen refuelling stations and up to 800 fuel cell vehicles in Gauteng using 7 tons per day of industrial hydrogen.
